Wisconsin hitter commits to 'Rocker volleyball program

RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines volleyball head coach Tiffany Mastin is pleased to announce the recent signing of Cathene Malin as the newest addition to the Lady Hardrocker volleyball program for the 2009 season.
Malin is a 5-foot-10-inch outside hitter from Hudson, Wis., that played her high school volleyball for the Hudson High School Raiders. She was also a club volleyball standout, honing her skills for the NOMA Stars 18-1 squad in Wisconsin.
Cathene is a player with a good build and excellent volleyball form, Mastin said. She has great game skills and has tremendous volleyball fundamentals. Her personality is the type where she wants to excel on and off the court and she will continue to improve and get better as she matures.
After her senior season at the high school level, Malin was an all conference second-team selection, earned her team's Offensive Player of the Year Award and received academic all-conference honors.
Cathene is a tall kid with good arm swing. She blocks well and she moves well, Mastin said. I'm sure it will take some time to acclimate her to the college game, but she's driven and willing to learn. She has a high ceiling. There is no telling where we can take her or where she can take us.
Tryouts for Hudson High School volleyball teams begins on August 17. Tryouts will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Practice starts on Thursday, August 20. You MUST attend tryouts to be placed on a team.
Coach Saathoff will hold five contact days over the summer. They are Wednesday nights from 6:00-9:00 pm (June 24, July 8, 15, 22 and 29th). Attendence is not required, but recommended. It is also not necessary to stay the entire time.
Coach Saathoff will also open the High School weight room on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30p.m. and Fridays from 4:00-5:30p.m.
The Hudson Volleyball Assoc. along with the Hudson High School Volleyball team will be holding a Volleyball Camp for girls entering 8th grade and younger.

CampFee: $45.00 for Pre-Registration. (Nonrefundable)
This fee will include individual and small group instruction, prizes for tournament champions and individual contests. The camp will feature work on basic skills such as:
Passing
Setting
Footwork
Concepts of the Game
Intro to Hitting
Basics of Blocking
This camp is unique because it will be primarily run by high school age Junior Olympic volleyball players and/or the high school varsity team. Campers will get one-on-one attention with these qualified players. Each girl will be placed on a team for the tournament and each team will be coached by a J/O player.Local Junior Olympic coaches may also assist at the camp.
